Haywood County Trout Farms
Aaaaah.... the lazy days of youth, grab a fishing pole and head to the creek.
With today's hustle and bustle business life and vacations being just as busy, it's hard to find the time to create those memories for your own kids. But they can share in the experience of catching dinner for the family.
Here at many of Haywood County's trout farms, you can head to the ol' fishin' hole, toss in a line, and still capture the magic of your child's face catching that first fish, and the grinning faces at dinner from those who "provided" for the family.

Regulations for Mountain Trout
The information contained in this section is directly taken from the North Carolina Inland Fishing, Hunting and Trapping Regulations Digest. Effective July 1, 2006 - June 30, 2007. An online copy can be found here at the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
Brook, brown and rainbow trout are the dominant species of freshwater trout in North Carolina. These trout require cold, clean water and are therefore generally restricted to mountain streams and lakes. Those mountain waters that support trout and are open to public fishing are designated as “Public Mountain Trout Waters” by the Wildlife Resources Commission and are managed for public trout fishing.
Individuals 16 and older are required to have a valid fishing license, $20 per year for North Carolina residents.
Non-residents may purchase a one-day license for $10, a three-day license for $15 or an annual license for $30. Trout stamps, an additional $10, are required for non-residents to fish on any state supported streams. On the Cherokee Indian Reservation, no license is required, only a $7 daily tribal permit. Contact local outfitters for expert guide service in hooking the area’s river trout.
Designated Public Mountain Trout Waters
Designated Public Mountain Trout Waters are classified for management purposes as either “Hatchery Supported Trout Waters” or “Wild Trout Waters.” Hatchery Supported Trout Waters must be stocked periodically with trout to sustain angling. Wild Trout Waters are high-quality waters that sustain trout populations by natural reproduction. Some Designated Public Trout Waters are specially regulated to meet specific management objectives.
Hatchery Supported Trout Waters
There are approximately 1,100 miles of Hatchery Supported Trout Waters in North Carolina. In hatchery supported waters there is no size limit or bait restriction, and the creel limit is seven trout per day. Hatchery Supported Trout Waters are marked with green-and white signs that are posted conspicuously along the watercourses.
